Over 99% of the population of Bannu is Sunni Muslims.
Bannu is predominantly mainstream of Muslims with very small Shia population. There are real fanatics. If you enter the Masjid without a cap, they mind it very seriously and may be sometimes they admonish you too.
There are some Hindus still living here who didn't migrated to India at partition times.
Before partition a significant number of Hindus were living here especially in Kaki and Baraat areas.
There is also a small Christian ethnic group brought and settled by the British during the colonial period.
